Creeping authoritarianism is an apt description. It happens incrementally over time, and if we aren't vigilant, we will awaken in 6 months, asking, "What the hell happened?" The problem, however, is that our liberties are being attacked from so many fronts that it's nearly impossible to defend them all. (Which I believe is by design.)
